Elwood Rask was born about 1918 in North Dakota. Records indicate his home town at the time of enrollment into the Civilian Conservation Corps was Sykeston, North Dakota, a small town in Wells County. In 1940 he is believed to reside in Grand Forks, North Dakota with wife Della Rask.
