Clarence Michael Minahan, 87, of Geddes died Saturday (April 20, 2002) at Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory.

Funeral service was held April 24 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Geddes. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born July 29, 1914, at Mansbridge to James B. and Johannah (Lynch) Minahan. He grew up and attended country school near Geddes, high school at Lake Andes for one year and the remainder at St. Ann's at Geddes. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1934-1935, on a farm and at a sawmill in McMinnville, Ore., from 1937-1940. He married Elizabeth Niehus May 13, 1940, at Geddes and they returned to Oregon until 1945. They moved back to South Dakota and bought a farm east of Geddes where they farmed and raised their family. He also drove truck part-time and did custom combining. They moved into Geddes in 1969 and he continued to do custom combining and worked for several Geddes area farmers. He also worked a few years at Melmer's Grocery Store until he retired in 1979. His wife died May 30, 1995.

He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, K.C.'s and served on the church and city councils. He belonged to the Do Si Do Square Dance Club. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, music of all kinds, working crossword puzzles, visiting with family and friends, and traveling to several states, Canada, Mexico and Japan. He had a vivid memory of his boyhood and growing up during the Great Depression, and gave much enjoyment to his children and grandchildren by relating these stories.
