Elmer Otis Pruitt

Chanute, KS

1939, 762, Custer, F-12,

Elmer Otis Pruitt, 80, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002 in his home in Chanute, Kansas.

He was born Sept. 1, 1921 in rural Neosho County, Kansas, the son of Jon and Grace Eudora Pruitt.

He later moved to Chanute and attended Chanute area schools.

He served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific, both in Hawaii and Marshall Islands from 1942-45. He served with the 757th Chemical Depot Company as a technician.

He married Doris Brewer in 1946. She survives of the home.

He was employed with Gene Orr, worked also at Ash Grove Cement Plant, and as a painter for the Santa Fe Railroad. He also worked for 32 years for Western Petro Chemical (wax plant) as a pumper, and for seven years at Gates Rubber in Iola until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 170, Chanute.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sandra Lawless, of Loveland, CO; one son, Steven, of Chanute, KS; one sister, Bertha Beck, of Protection, KS; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Earnest Gridley of CA, Earl, of Chanute, KS; Edgar, of Humboldt, KS; and Everett, of Topeka, KS.
