Laney

Joseph Richard Laney (Joe)

Verona, ND

1940-41, 2750, Fruitdale (Orman Dam), BR-2, Company Clerk

Below is from The Orman Duster camp newspaper, Fruitdale, SD for October 1941

Joe Laney, company clerk, came to Camp Orman, Jan. 6, this year. He was born in Verona N. D. He grew up there and graduated from high school in 1940.

His first job as an enrollee was field work on the project, helping construct concrete irrigation canals. After working six weeks he grabbed an advancement opportunity to become second assistant to the educational adviser. In this position he served three months until a vacancy occurred in the first assistant place, and he was advanced. After one month he was taken by the C. O. to fill a vacancy in the company clerk position. He was rated as an assistant-leader July 1, and a month later was promoted to leader.

Joe has the good habit of getting the job done in an efficient manner. His superiors can rely upon him.

He tells us that some day he hopes to be a subaltern or company commander in a CCC camp.
