Verne Sundermeyer, 79, Groton died Thursday Sept. 16, 1999 at Aver St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen. Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Groton, with the Father David Janes officiating.
Burial was in Groton Catholic Cemetery, with Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton, in charge of arrangements.
Verne Sundermeyer was born November 10, 1919 to William and Marie (Jose) Sundermeyer in Groton. He attended school in both Aberdeen and Groton and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1936.
He married Christina Gefre in Aberdeen. From 1941 to 1945, they lived in Buffalo, NY; Salt Lake City; Reno, Nev.; Bisbee, Ariz.; Los Angeles and San Francisco. They returned to Aberdeen, where they lived for one year. They then moved to the Groton area, where they had lived for the past 50 years. Verne was a dedicated and loving husband, caring for his wife for a number of years due to her illness. She passed away on April 20, 1998. He continued to make his home in Groton until the time of his death.
He is survived by two sons, Robert (Lonnie) Sundermeyer, Ghent, Ky., and James (Teresa) Sundermeyer, Stillwater, Minn.; one daughter, Patricia (Duane) Sombke, Pinole, Calef.; one sister, Margie James, San Jose, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Casketbearers were Richard Strom, Luverne Strom, Anton Schwab, Donald Bartz, Roger Krueger and Dan Krueger.
Honorary casketbearers were Lyle Reder and Walter Reber.
Organist and soloist was Matt Hinds.
