Ruth Pfander is listed in the 1933 Civilian Conservation Corps South Dakota History along with other Black Hills National Forest Personnel that added support and administration to the various projects on federal lands.
Mrs. Ruth Margaret Pfander, 80, died unexpectedly Friday about 2 p.m. in her home in Deadwood. She had been ill only a brief time. Last rites are set for Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Deadwood, with the Rev. Dr. J Henry Hottmann officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill cemetery, Spearfish, under the direction of the Wells Funeral Home, Deadwood. She was born Oct. 20, 1892 to Judge and Mrs. Fred Ackerman in David City, Neb. and graduated from Deadwood High School. She was married to Irvin G. Pfander, Jan. 12, 1915, and the couple lived for a short time in Chamberlain. They returned to Deadwood to make their home. They had observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1965 in their residence on Sherman St., where they had resided for many years. He preceded her in death March 28, 1968. Mrs. Pfander served for 30 years with the U. S. Forest Service office in Deadwood, doing secretarial and stenographical work. She retired about 15 years ago. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's group and Sarah-Ruth Circle. Surviving are cousins and several nieces and nephews, including Guy March, Rapid City.
