The death of Enrollee Otto Nelson came as a shock to members of Company 2759-V-CCC. Otto was considered one of the strongest men in the company and had never complained of ill health. On the evening of February, 26 he had just finished a hearty meal, while at the table, suddenly slumped forward over his plate, unconscious. He died in a few minutes later without gaining consciousness. The camp surgeon examined him and pronounced death as due to apoplexy.

Otto Nelson was born December 13, 1886 in the village of Havaberg, Sweden. He had been a member of the company since October 9, 1936.

Interment was made at Ipswich, S. Dak. his former home. The American Legion Post of that city was in charge of the funeral.
