Mr. Henry J. (H.J.) Aesoph, age 94, of Milbank died September 26, 2009, at a care center in Milbank.

A Prayer Service will be held Thursday, October 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf and Father Daniel Wolfgram will officiate and a private burial will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery at Orient, SD. There will be no visitation.

He was born at home in Hyde County, SD to George and Rose (Warda) Aesoph and was the youngest of eight children. He was a member of St. Joseph's and St. Lawrence Catholic Churches. He married Helen Sweetland in 1938, and to this union, nine children were born. He married Bonnie Brink in 1982.

In Orient, he farmed the Homestead that his parents owned, and operated Heinie's Bar for many years, later selling the Homestead to his nephew. In 1955, he moved his family to Milbank, SD, where he was employed by the Mercantile Company, then became a partner in The Milbank Implement Store. He established the Aesoph & Sons Trucking Company, which operated for many years under his direction and after his retirement by his sons. He also enjoyed working with cattle in his semi-retirement years.

He was a man who spoke his mind and met life's challenges with good humor, always stating, "it could be worse!" Even as his health deteriorated in later years, he maintained his remarkable sense of humor and spunk.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; two sons: Thomas and Gary; one son-in-law: David Vogel, and all of his siblings.

Henry J. Aesoph is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Milbank, SD; his children: Dale and wife Jean Aesoph of Milbank, SD; Don and wife Patti Aesoph of Milbank, SD; Mary (Gary) Aesoph of Sioux City, IA; Rheta Kopecky of Sioux Falls, SD; Jeanne Vogel of Seattle, WA; Jon and wife Laura Aesoph of Coupeville, WA; Jim and wife Brenda Aesoph of Watertown, SD; Chris and wife Lauri Aesoph of Victoria, British Columbia; Todd and wife Kathy Brink of Summit, SD; Dann Brink of Summit, SD; Chad and wife Tammie Brink of Renner, SD; 33 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
