Iven Nels Jacobson

Iven Jacobson, age 92, of Huron, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at his home. His memorial service was at 2 PM, Saturday, March 29th, at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Andrew Crandall, officiating. Burial of his cremated remains was held at Saturday, March 29th at the Altoona Cemetery at Hitchcock. Memorials may be directed to Huron Regional Medical Center Community Hospice and First Presbyterian Church.

Iven Nels Jacobson was born April 22, 1921, in Spink County, to Iver and Jennie Jacobson. On September 12, 1944, he married Lorraine Tollefson at Huron. They farmed near Hitchcock until 1983 and then moved to Huron. Iven became a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis and Rovers Campers Club and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army Christmas Basket Program.

In 1938 and 1939, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He served on the board of directors for Production Credit Association and Beadle Electric Cooperative, and he was trustee and elder at Bonilla Presbyterian Church.

On April 20, 2000, he was preceded in death by his first wife Lorraine Tollefson Jacobson. On November 13, 2004, he married Lorraine Schuett in Huron.

His music, storytelling, and ability to entertain will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine of Huron; two sons, Ronald Jacobson of Gillette, Wyoming and Randy (Adele) Jacobson of Huron; one daughter, Joan (Marvin) French of Fort Collins, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Jackie (Nick) Peterson, Janel (Cody) Vander Wal, Jennifer (David) Schock, Ryan (Erin) Jacobson, Lee (Amber) Jacobson, Christopher and Jason French; sixteen great-grandchildren, Jared, Collin, Travis, Amanda, Nicole, Dani Mae, Nicholas, Charli, Mackenzie, Morgan, Landon, Kennedy, Marti, Cole, Shawn, and Mya; and two great-great-grandchildren, Cayden and Teagen. He is also survived by step-children, Lowen, Lonnie, and Lynn Schuett and their families of Arizona and Colorado; six step-grandchildren, Lindsey, Jeffry, Aaron (Elaine), Dale and Joshua Schuett, and Megan (Aaron) Stolenberger; two step-great-grandchildren, Brin and Bella; and many nieces and nephews.

Iven was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lorraine; three brothers, Almer, Lloyd and Arnold; and three sisters, Eva Freeburg, Edna Pageler and Evelyn Jungwirth.
