Clifford A. Hodne, 86, Winfred died July 23, 2001 at his farm after a long illness. The Rev. Jeff Hansen will officiate in Salem Lutheran Church, rural Salem, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Brad, Brian, Brandon, Travis, Justin, Jason, Blake Hodne, Aaron Heildelberger, Rollan and Ray Wengert, and Tyler Weiland. Organist will be Delores Jackson and singers will be Brett Snyders and Betty Peterson.
Clifford was born March 8, 1915, at Valley Springs to Ole and Selma (Nelson) Hodne. He grew up in the Valley Springs-Brandon area and graduated from Garretson High School. He worked in the C.C. Camp in 1934-35 before starting to farm in the Brandon area in 1940. He married Pearl Peterson at Sherman on December 31, 1941. They farmed near Brandon until 1951, when they moved to a farm near Winfred. He sold Pioneer Seed Corn for 40 years. He served on the Salem Lutheran Church Board , Bible Study, Via De Cristo, and the District Soil Conservation Board. He started the Round Barn softball team and ran the Round Barn Feed Service for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl of Winfred; three sons, Ronald,(Ev), Darrel (Judy) of Sioux Falls, and Dennis (Janet) of Madison; two daughters, Beverly (Howard) Heidelberger of Spencer, and Rosemary (Ike) Wengert of Madison; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Elwin of Sioux Falls, three sisters, Bernice, Inez, and Geneva.
