Dell B. Hall, 98, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Prairie Heights Healthcare, Aberdeen.

A Graveside Committal Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, with Fr. Michael Griffin officiating.

Military rights will be held by Sidney L. Smith, American Legion Post #24.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook and also view the service via the live stream service link at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Dell’s family requests that masks be worn and social distancing rules are followed.

Dell B. Hall was born May 17, 1922, to Dick and Lillie (Gillam) Hall in Elm Springs, SD. He attended school in Haydraw, SD, until the 8th grade. Dell’s father died when Dell was ten years old and Dell supported his family by working on multiple farms. At the age of 17, he entered the Civilian Conservation Corp and was stationed at Hot Springs, SD and two years at the Bad Lands. After his discharge, Dell moved to Buffalo, NY, and worked for Bell Aircraft until February 1943, when he moved to Winner, SD. He entered the US Navy in March of 1943 and went to bootcamp at Furaget, ID. Dell was in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and also landed on Okinawa, where he was on RADAR Picket duty. He was wounded on May 11, 1945 and earned a Purple Heart, Presidents Unit Pin, and numerous other ribbons. Dell received an honorable discharge in December of 1945, at Burlington, WA. He moved to Klamath Falls, OR, where he married Cecelia E. Sahli on January 23, 1946. In March of 1946, they moved to Aberdeen, where he worked for the Aberdeen Parks Department and the box factory. He worked for N.W.P.S. from January 5th, 1948, until he retired on May 1, 1983.

Dell is survived by his children, Rose Dian (James) Russell of Nebo, NC and Darwin J (Reatha) Hall of Aberdeen, a son-in-law, Walter Schaffer of Mound City, SD, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter, Alice Kay Schaffer, and three brothers.
