Funeral services for Hugh Foss, 74, longtime Lemmon area farmer and rancher was held Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1989 at 11 a.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church. Rev. Randy Eisenbiesz officiated, and burial was made in the Greenhill Cemetery. Special music for the service will be provided by Joanne Seim, accompanist, the Rosebud Church Choir and Eldon Jensen. Casket-bearers include Jim Wilson, Chuck Mertz, Paul Wilson, Blaine Wilson, Rex Eichelberger, Gary Foss, Larry Foss and Merle Nilsen.
Hugh Foss was born on July 28, 1915 in Fayette Co., IA to Floyd and Grace (Smith) Foss. The family moved to Perkins County in 1928 to a farm in Barrett Township and he attended the King Rural School near his home. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934 stationed in the Black Hills near Rockerville. On October 23, 1937 he was united in marriage to Ida Anderson at Bison, SD. They lived at Haynes, ND where he worked in the coal mines and later moved to a farm south of Haynes until 1958 when they moved to Lemmon. He worked with Charlie Gilbertson as a carpenter until 1966 when they moved to a farm south-west of Lemmon. They retired into Lemmon to the Westside Apartments in 1987. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary that year.
