FRED C. SCHANCK - 1110 N. Lake Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD; Died: Friday, August 4, 2006, Sioux Falls, SD; Age: 90 years, 9 months, 17 days.

Fred Chris Schanck, son of Henry P. and Hattie (Johanneson) Schanck, was born October 17, 1915 in Bryant, SD.

Fred was united in marriage with Junis E. Peterson on November 23, 1938 in Canton, SD. The couple lived at Bryant for a short time before moving to Sioux Falls, SD. He was employed at John Morrell and Company in Sioux Falls for thirty-six years. Fred most recently resided at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls.

Fred was an avid bowler and golfer. He shot a hole-in-one at the age of 81 at Elmwood Golf Course. He also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels with a friend and neighbor Karen Muth.

Grateful for having shared his life are a son, Fred P. Schanck and his wife, Regina, Phoenix, AZ; three daughters, Judy Berdahl and her husband, Charles, Aurora, CO, Karen Welnhofer and her husband, Robert, Inverness, IL, Pamela Schillerstrom and her husband, Gerald, Sioux Falls, SD; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, George Schanck, Clark, SD, brother-in-law, Clarence Gustafson, Bryant, SD; two sisters-in-law; Mary Peterson, Watertown, SD, Charlene Peterson, Willow Lake, SD; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Junis, on March 11, 2001; his parents; a sister, Helen (Schanck) Slagle; two brothers, Charles Schanck and Robert Schanck; and a great-grandson Nathan Berdahl.
