Carl C. Wachter (Mike)

Midland, SD

Carl C. "Mike" Wachter age 97 Prairie du Chien passed away peacefully Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the Prairie Maison Care Center. He was born March 6, 1917 in Midland, South Dakota the son of Herman and Mertie (Kaiser) Wachter.

Mike was a sixty year member of the Mount Hope Legion Post 229 and a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Belle Fourche, South Dakota before moving to Woodman Township to farm with his father.

He was inducted into the United States Army in July, 1941 and proudly served his country in the Philippine Theatre during World War II where he was awarded four campaign stars, the combat infantryman’s badge and the Purple Heart.

After his discharge from the service, he continued farming with his brothers, and later, his nephew Brad until his retirement. He is survived by two brothers; Herman (Bernadine) Wachter Jr. of Fennimore, WI, Louis (Pat) Wachter of Millville, WI, two sisters; Hazel Ellis of Glen Haven, Dorice VanVorst of St. Paul, MN, a sister in law Doris Ann Wachter of Fenninore, WI and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers; Kelly, Clifford, Robert, Russell, Donald, Edward and Kenneth, three sisters; Cleone, Ina, and Florence, and a special nephew; Brad.

Funeral services held Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 11:30 AM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Rev. Joe Irvin officiating with burial at the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Military Honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard.
