Robert Wendell Hampton

Naples, TX

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Brooks Chapel. Private Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Robert "Wendell" Hampton was born on July 10, 1920 in Naples, TX to Arlen and Naomi Hicks Hampton. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp at the age of 16. He married Mildred Seale and they were married almost sixty years when she preceded him in death in 1998. He married Jewel Baugh in 1999, and she preceded him in death in 2012. Wendell worked for Meads Fine Bread until his retirement. He was ordained a deacon at the Northgate Baptist Church in El Paso. They moved to Amarillo in 1969, and he was a deacon at Coulter Road Baptist Church where he also started the Triple L Senior Group. He volunteered at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice in 1998 and 1999. Wendell enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Texas Rangers fan. He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Hampton, in 2006, and a sister, Johnie Kingston.

Survivors include a son, Ronnie Hampton and wife, Judy, of El Paso; a daughter, Sharon Scott and husband, Mike, of Canyon; one sister, Lila Selman and husband, Bob, of San Antonio; twelve grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Relatives visited the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Museum of South Dakota in August of 2017 and stated that Robert talked of his time in the Black Hills CCC.
