George Ruble

Ravinia, SD

George E. Ruble was born in St. Croix Falls, WI, May 8, 1912 and passed away December 7, 2010.

George's family moved to Ravinia, SD in 1916. George graduated high school in 1930 and worked as a farm laborer until 1933 when he enrolled in Civilian Conservation Corps in Black Hills, SD. and was discharged from the CCC in 1934.

George Ruble worked as an auto mechanic Owatonna, MN, served three years in Minnesota National Guard and was a volunteer fireman. He became a toolmaker in Waseca, MN and was promoted to foreman. George took up flying in 1936 and served as civilian flight instructor from 1943-45. He owned and operated a machine shop in Denver, CO, 1956-64 and was employed by Lockheed for 10 years as design engineer, retiring in 1977.

George built an experimental airplane in his garage and flew it until he was 90. He was a member of Freemasons for 61 years and a member of Experimental Aircraft Association for 35 years.

Throughout his long life he made friends wherever he went. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 68 years, Marcella; his sons, Kenneth, Daniel, daughter Jean, son Christopher, daughter-in-law Lucile and granddaughters Andrea and Natasha.

Burial: Newcastle Cemetery, 850 Taylor Rd, Newcastle, California.
