Edwin Bellack, 97, of Faulkton and formerly of Seneca, passed away, Saturday, March 01, 2008 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
Funeral and Lodge services were held at 10:00a.m., Wednesday, March 5 at the United Church of Faulkton with Rev. Mike Ward officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery, Seneca. Visitation was held from 1:00-5:00p.m., Tuesday, March 4 at the Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton with a 7:00p.m. prayer service. Music was provided by Colleen Simon who sang, "Go Rest High on that Mountain", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and the "Hymn of Promise". The congregation will sing "Amazing Grace".
Pallbearers were his grandsons and grandsons-in-law: Paul Witte, Michael Mohr, Blake Battcher, Kevin Oedekovens, Tad Berens, and Scott Goins. The ushers were Donovan Heier and Jon Klose and the reader was Terry Battcher.
Edwin Guy Bellack was born February 16, 1911 near Salem, South Dakota to Frank and Clara (Dick) Bellack. He attended McCook County rural school until the 8th grade. At the age of 16 the family moved to a farm near Seneca where he lived and worked. He also worked in Montana as a carpenter and from 1933 to 1934 attended the CC Camp in the Black Hills area planting trees and tending to the horses and mules. Ed also worked for the ASCS office in Faulkton for 10 years.
In 1934 Edwin met Grace Cooper who was teaching his younger siblings. They were married on June 11, 1936. Together they farmed for 64 years before moving into Faulkton. To this union four daughters were born.
Ed was a 4-H Leader, belonged to the I.O.O.F. Lodges #250 & #169 for 79 years, served on the local school board, township board and as a trustee of the Seneca Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, raising his all white shorthorn herd, gardening, woodworking, square dancing and traveling with Grace. They toured all but two states and Europe.
Ed was known for always being there to help neighbors and friends in need.
He is survived by his wife Grace of 71 years; daughters: Birdine (Dave) Battcher, Gaylord, MN, Beth Witte, Seneca, Berniece (Werner) Mohr, Hosmer and Barbara (Joe) Nemick, Lander, WY; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; sisters: Florence Winters, Seneca and Ella (George) Winters, Colorado; brother: Lloyd (Marie) Bellack, Cresbard; sister and brothers-in-law: Jack (Irene) Cooper, Faulkton, Margarette Schuelke, Indiana, Bill Cooper, Texas and John (Jerri) Fahrni, Deadwood and many nieces and nephews.
Gone onto heaven before Ed were his parents; sister: Mabel Hagenlock Holzwarth; brother: Vernon Bellack; son-in-law: Bob Witte; granddaughter: Deann Witte; brothers and sisters-in-law: Max & Famie Cooper, Joann Fahrni, Lyle Schuelke, Bev Cooper, Marjorie Bellack, Otis Winters and Henry Hagenlock and many nieces and nephews.
