More Than History
When someone finds a relative or family friend listed in the roster or recognizes them in a photo it makes their day. For those of us that volunteer at the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Museum of South Dakota every visitor is our guest and we enjoy seeing them all, but friends and family of the CCC Boys are always a particular delight. The comments, stories, the expressions make one realize the importance of preserving history.
This time in our country, 1933 to 1942, was significant and shaped the lives of so many. The CCC made men of the boys, better men of the men and made an impact on their families. More than that, it impacted the entire country. Roads, bridges, dams, lakes, national, state and city parks, forestry, conservation, education, and even art and design. The contributions made in these areas by these men continue to influence how we live, work and play.
We would love to have you visit the CCC Museum of South Dakota. If you can't visit us then take the time to visit a museum in your area. History gives us a window into the past, a map to the present and a vision of what's ahead.
