Charles Wolf CCC Footlocker

Below is from Charles Wolf donated scrapbook.

"I built this foot locker at the first CCC camp. It served me well through all the three camps I served. I also cut wood so several other guys could make theirs. I still have it in the attic. Whenever I see it, I have many wonderful memories. It was a foot stool; a chair and put upon the bunk, it was a study desk, a writing table or a card table and an ironing board.

"I worked with the camp tailor, Luvern McConkey, sewing on rating stripes and CCC emblems. We also made "bell bottom" pants. A "must-have" fad of the day. I still sew and mend family needs today. I was also one of the camp barbers. I kept my gear in this locker and was always ready for the many guys wanting haircuts and trims.

"The most remembered hair cut was when the day company commander Ringsrud asked if I would trim his hair. Not only was I very nervous but the guys really razed me. I cut and trimmed his hair several times and he said he got great compliments. I must admit his hair was very easy to care for as many were not.

"So many memories when I look at this old wooden box. I believe the CCC's was the most rewarding, the most learning, most remembered part of my life."
