Lyle Derscheid Books

Though several other books have been written about the CCC, none have Included any significant amount of information about the CCC in South Dakota. The first edition of this book gives a comprehensive report for the years 1933-1937 and somewhat less complete summary for the years 1938-1942. The second edition is much more complete, especially for the last 5 years.

The book is no longer in print and while available at some public libraries is not available for checkout. The first edition of "THE CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS IN SOUTH DAKOTA 1933-1942" was donated to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Museum of South Dakota by Peggy Sanders in 2016 or 2017. The 2nd edition was donated in 2019 by Bette Hart.

Author Lyle Derscheid and the many who contributed to this writing cover much of what the CCs did in South Dakota. As of 2019 the first edition has been digitized and printed. The 2nd edition is being digitized and will also be printed. Some pages of the 1st edition have already been printed a couple of times do to wear from museum visitors researching or simply reading about the CCC.

These are both wonderful book donations and add significantly to the CCC Museum of South Dakota collection.
