Richard Judson Aus

Richard Judson Aus was born to Minnie and Jacob Aus in Madison, South Dakota, on April 11, 1921. His siblings were Madelyn, Millard, and Doris.

He attended local schools, his main interest being basketball. In his late teens, he spent two years of rewarding service in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Black Hills of South Dakota. In 1941, he went into the United States Air Force and served as an aerial engineer until 1945. He was based in North Africa and Italy.

At the end of World War II, he returned to Madison, S.D. At college there, he met his wife, Jeanette. He later attended UCLA.

He served as a Junior High School teacher in Madison and later in Westmorland, California. His service was also as a Boy Scout leader, which led him to train to be a professional Scouter for the Boy Scouts of America. He continued this career from 1953-1985. He served as a Field Executive in the Imperial-Yuma Council, a Field Director in the San Fernando Council, the Scout Executive in the Redwood Area Council in Eureka, and as a Scout Executive in the Southern Sierra Council in Bakersfield.

He was a Rotarian at one time and contributed time to other organizations. He was a member of NACCCA Chapter 20.

He is survived by his daughters Sarah and husband Frank Jager; Becky and husband Mack Provart; Julie and husband Doug Williams; Christine and husband Jim Gurman; and Mary and husband Donald DeGeare. Also grandchildren Joe, Annie, Katie and Michael Jager; Matthew and Luke Provart; Christine and Lisa Williams; and Lindy and Stephanie DeGeare. His great-grandchildren are Trinity and Autumn Bowie, Ellington and Harper Smith, Blake Gonchoroff.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 7, at 11am. The location is Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1900 Baker Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated by the Southern Sierra Council, Boy Scouts of America.
