Vernon Otis Mollet (Verne)

Geddes, SD

1935, 789, Este, F-3,

Vernon Mollet's service records indicate that a log rolled over his lower thigh while loading logs into a truck at Camp Este on May 1, 1935. He spent some time in the hospital as a result.

Vernon Otis Mollet was born July 12, 1915 at Clearfield, South Dakota, the son of Ernest and Ellen Carlson Mollet, and entered into death June 13, 1983 at the age of 67 years, Il months and 1 day.

At the age of five he moved with his parents to Geddes, South Dakota. He grew up in Geddes and worked there for a short time prior to his military service. He served in the European Theater as a Staff Sgt., in the Engineer Corp during World War Two. After his discharge he returned to South Dakota and on October 30, 1945 was married to Gladys Larson at Alcester. The couple farmed northwest of Alcester until his death.

Verne was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and was a member of Nathanael Lutheran Church. He had served on the church council and was also a member of the V. F. W. and the American Legion. His hobby, which was enjoyed by his family as well as himself, was cooking.

Among the survivors who gratefully shared his life are his wife, Gladys; two sons, Murray of Beresford and Marlon of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Janene (Mrs. Curtis Abrahamson) of Olathe, Kansas and Janice (Mrs. Riley Gall) of Yankton; eight grandchildren, Tim, Tom and Ty Abrahamson, Ben, Adam and John Gall and Bradley and Susan Amanda Mollet; one brother, Clarence of Byron, Minnesota and three sisters, Mrs. Dora Varuska of Geddes and Mrs. Bernice Trainer and Mrs. Ruby Nedved both of Rapid City. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed, AI and Charles.
