McCoy

Maj. Gen. Frank Ross McCoy

Lewistown, PA

1933, Seventh Corps Area, Commanding

Frank Ross McCoy was born October 29, 1874 in Lewistown, Pennsylvania and died in Washington, D.C. on June 4, 1954 at the age of 79. Major General McCoy was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

1933 Frank McCoy took command of VII Corps Area, Omaha, NE and held that position until 1935. Seventh Corps Area was headquartered at the Omaha Army Depot and Fort Crook in Omaha, Nebraska and included Arkansas, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska.

A Corps area was a geographically-based organizational structure (military district) of the United States Army used to accomplish administrative, training and tactical tasks from 1920 to 1942. Each corps area included divisions of the Regular Army, Organized Reserve and National Guard of the United States. Developed as a result of serious mobilization problems during World War I, this organizational scheme provided a framework to rapidly expand the Army in time of war or national emergency such as the Great Depression.
