REMAINS BROUGHT FROM ARMY CAMP TO HOME TOWN

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, August 12, at the Nathanael Lutheran church in Alcester, SD for Sigurd Westin, who passed away at Fort Ord, California, August 6. The services were conducted by Rev. G. W. Reinmuth, and burial was made in the Alcester cemetery, the arrangements being under the supervision of the Nilson funeral home.

Sigurd Maritz Westin was born February 3, 1916, at Alcester, South Dakota, and at the time of his passing at Fort Ord, California, he was at the age of 25 years, 6 months and 3 days.

He had spent his lifetime in Alcester, with the exception of three years spent in the Civil Conservation Corps at Fruitdale S. D. His mother died January 1, 1929, when Sigurd was but 13 years of age, and his father, Hans Westin, passed away March 8, 1933.

He attended the Alcester public schools, graduating with the class of 1934. He was baptized at the Nathanael Lutheran church of Alcester May 3, 1936, and became a member of that church in September, 1940.

In November, 1940 he enlisted in the 147th Field Artillery, and was stationed with his regiment at Fort Ord, California at the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn his passing four brothers: Henning, of Alcester, S. D.; Dave, of Sioux Falls, S. D.; Hans of Fort Ord, California, and Marvin of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Also two sisters, Miss Anna Westin, of Redfield, S. D. and Mrs. Rebekah Sims of Hutchinson, Kansas. Other relatives are Mrs. Henning Johnson and Mrs. Walter Pearson, aunts, both of Pittsburg, Pa., and Eric Westin an uncle of Alcester.
