Edwin Schmitt

Mott, ND

1936-37, 2760, Oreville, F-16,

Edwin Schmitt, 85, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at a Billings hospital. He was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Mott, N.D., to Emanuel and Pauline (Bertsch) Schmitt.

Edwin married Eva Kaul on Oct. 5, 1940, in Fallon. They lived in the Glendive area until moving to Billings in 1984. Edwin's work included service in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), owning a dairy farm and managing a Cenex service station. He enjoyed being a school crossing guard after retiring. Edwin valued time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very involved with Our Savior Lutheran Church while in Glendive and Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Billings. His interests included gardening and working in the yard, as well as having a passion for horses and John Deere equipment.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn; two brothers, Jake and Otto; two sisters, Beatta and Frieda; a half-sister, Helen; and a step-brother, Herbert.

Survivors include his wife, Eva; sons, Delton and Gordon; daughters, Marilyn and Vicki; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Harry; sister, Christine; and stepbrother, Leonard.
