Bodenner

Miles Henry Bodenner

Fairburn, SD

1937, 1793, Lodge, SP-4, foreman

"My step-grandfather was Miles Bodenner. He worked at the State Game Lodge and later served with the CCC as a foreman at Camp Lodge in Custer State Park.

During that time he met my grandmother, Sarah Jane "Pink" Kinnaird Burton, who was working at the Game Lodge, primarily as a cook.

Miles and Pink married in 1940. My grandfather built a cabin on property leased from Custer State Park and they, with my father, John Donald "Don" Burton, lived there for many years and my dad attended school near the Game Lodge.

After leaving the Custer State Park area they all moved to Graybull, Wyoming and later to Rapid City.

We all have fond memories of many, many days spent at the cabin in the Park during the time my brother and I were growing up. Our grandfather told us many tales about his days working with the CCC and my dad riding a horse from the cabin to and from school, up hill both ways, in freezing winter weather".

Sincerely,
Roger Miles Burton
