Forrest S Mathes was born about 1892. In 1940, he was 48 years old and lived at Camp F-20 in Lawrence, South Dakota.

From the Este Ripples dated June 30, 1942: Forrest Mathes and his crew of 2-3 men are busy making rustic signs and some small buildings from logs whose use can not be explained here.

Reference indicates company was made up of veterans.
