Winford J. Laur (Buzz)

The 1935 basketball team of the company, led by "Buzz" Laur, was the company's pride. Winning over all opposition in the camp's immediate territory, the team entered the South Dakota district tournament in Rapid City as unknown and emerged as the district champion (1936).

Buzz Laur later enrolled at South Dakota State and was the all-conference center during 1938-39 and 1939-40. The conference champion team in the second year set a school scoring record of more than a point a minute, as it averaged over 40 points a game.^x

OUTSTANDING ATHLETES RECOGNIZED
Two outstanding athletes at State College were honored in connection with the recognition program held on Jackrabbit Roundup Day. The awards given by The Industrial Collegian, honoring the best basketball and football men of the current season, went to Winford "Buzz" Laur for basketball and to Jerry Stablein for football.
