John William Clapham

Custer, SD

1933, 1791, Custer, F-12, LEM

John William Clapham, oldest son of Joseph and Kate Clapham, was born October 4, 1897 in. Dubuque, Iowa and departed this life April 26, 1939 in Edgemont, S. D. His early years were spent in the Sisters' school in Dubuque. In 1910, he came to Provo, S.D. with his parents and has made his home in this vicinity until the time of passing.

He was employed as locomotive fireman by the Burlington Railroad for a number of years, but owing to failing health, he was forced to resign about four years ago.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Evelyn Trotter, June 15, 1924. To this union were born five children: Francis, Arleen, Robert, Richard, and William. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, five children, two brothers, James of Edgemont, and Joseph, of Minneapolis, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. Irene Erschen of Provo, besides a host of other relatives and friends. He numbered his friends by his acquaintances.

Funeral services were held from St. James Catholic Church of Edgemont, Rev. John. G. Groell officiating. Interment was in Edgemont cemetery, by McColley mortuary.
