Major C. J. Bakken, commander of sub-district B for the past three years, has been connected with the Civilian Conservation Corps for eight years.
Before becoming sub-district commander, Major Bakken was company commander of Company 797, now stationed at Kenmare, N. Dak. While in charge of that company its location was changed many times. Camp sites were set up in Arkansas, Minnesota, and various places in North Dakota before finally being permanently located at Kenmare. From there he went to Fort Lincoln at which station he remained for fourteen months. Since then he has been located at Fort Meade.
Prior to his entrance into CCC duty, Major Bakken taught school in Minnesota, his native state, and in North Dakota. He holds a degree in law obtained from the University of Minnesota.
If present plans are carried out Major Bakken will be transferred to Fort Lincoln, N. Dak., on or about November 1. We will miss him a great deal as his thorough understanding and pleasant personality will be very hard to replace. The Meade American wishes to take this opportunity to wish him the best of luck in his new position and express a sincere desire for his return in the near future.
One of the many duties of the sub-district commander is the regular inspection of all the camps in his district.
